M. F. FROSOLONO CURRENT WRITING PROJECTS

THROUGH THE WILDERNESS

This book of short essays will describe how Judeo-Christian and scientific principles can be integrated and applied to current issues in order to provide a rationally meaningful path through the cacophony of competing voices in the wilderness of our current society.  The primary targeted audience will be scientific and religious laypersons within the Judeo-Christian faith community, the Community of Believers.  Theology and science will be shown to represent two sides of the same coin based upon similar fundamental acts of faith; but, no attempt will be made “to prove” the existence of God.  The truth of Biblical teachings will be addressed from the requirement of answering two simultaneous questions:  (a) Did it really happen and (b) Is it true?  Acceptable answers are:  (a) yes, (b) yes and (a) no, (b) yes.  “Big Bang” cosmology and evolution will be presented as the best current explanations for the mechanisms by which God created and maintains the universe.  The freedom-imparting benefits of a God who is, or chooses only to be, extraordinarily powerful but not all powerful and incredibly knowing but not all knowing will be emphasized, especially in relation to the great gift of human free will.  The idea of a computer-like God who has a specific “plan” for each human and who frequently intervenes directly in human affairs in response to immature intercessory prayers will be criticized as a violation of free will.  Asking the “right” questions to get the “right” answers will be stressed.  For instance, “Is abortion a sin?” represents a non-productive question.  “How can we best welcome children into the Community of Believers?” generates more meaningful answers.  Similarly, the question, “Should Christians be involved in politics?” provides markedly less useful answers than do, “How should Christians be involved in politics?” or, “How should Christians use the legal system to promote adherence or conformity to their faith, and to extend the faith throughout the world?”  Manuscript length:  50,000 – 75,000 words.

UNTITLED NOVEL

What happens when a vicious enemy from Mark Adams’ violent past resurfaces with murderous intent toward him and his family?  Mark must again assume the mental attitude of the warrior and employ his lethal skills in order to protect his wife, an ordained Methodist minister with profound pacifist convictions, and his teenage son.  This novel describes how Mark follows a course of action that does not so much reflect a struggle between good and evil as the conflict involved with morally ambiguous choices among evils.  The action takes place in Jerusalem and Vickery, Georgia, during three to four months, present time.  Manuscript length:  65,000 - 75,000 words.
